Living is the sacrifice

There is this phrase that people say often to others that they are close to.
"Would die for you" - If you say this to someone they must mean a whole lot to your life if you are truly willing to give yours for them.
I myself have said this a handful of times, it is so commonplace to be willing to give yourself up for others. However, isn't dying easy? Isn't it easy to throw yourself in the fire for others? You have to make one decision which they then have to carry. Now in some sacrificial sense this is courageous but in the modern world there isn't a lot of cases where dying is truly necessary.
Not to take value away from the sacrifice of death. There is a time and place of course. There are thousands of people especially in law enforcement, military, fire fighters who put themselves in front of death for the benefit of others.
I think true courage and selflessness comes from living. You should live for others before you die for them.
Would you get in shape for the people you truly care for?
Would you discard the bad habits for them?
Would you get your finances right for them?
Would you devote your finite amount of time for them?
The list truly goes on and on, and a lot of these require genuine sacrifice. They come with a level of sacrifice and courage that far out weigh dying.
Alcoholics who say they would die for you, they are already dying for you are they not? Do they have the courage and sacrifice to live for you?
